When England played the USA during the football World Cup (that's soccer to those Americans amongst you) I might well have put England t-shirts on my offspring and encouraged them to cheer for England. My American husband was not impressed by this, but when you have dual nationality offspring that are growing up with American accents, playing baseball instead of rugby and telling you that you have spelt a word wrong when you use the British spelling, sometimes you feel that you need to tip the balance back a little in your homeland's favour (yes, favour with a 'u'... - it's NOT wrong...).
So when my husband asked if I was also going to make a pillow with some American soldiers on, I said no.
Still, he should just be glad that I am finally getting around to covering the old and tatty pillows that are lying around the house. This one is for my son. I've already thought up another British pillow to go with it, but who knows when I'll get around to making it. .
I've been feeling all mopey so far this year. I'm not sure why, but it is about time that I got over it. I'm thinking that some sewing is in order - along with blatant procrastination of sorting out our tax paperwork...

There's nothing wrong with flavour and colour or any of the other words that are spelled slightly different. Nothing wrong with those British Army officers on the pillow, either. I keep meaning to make myself a nice Union Jack pillow.

ReplyDeleteI love your cushion( as you and I know a pillow is what you rest your head on at night, but when in Rome and all that!),as to the guardsmen- I notice you haven't commented about their head-gear!!Apparently they are still made of real bearskin! I think they have static problems with fake fur!!

I proudly wore my England jersey and hat for that game, and dressed up our dual citizen daughter in a pretty London dress! (good thing that game was a tie, it could have been an issue at our house!)

ReplyDeletei'm all for tipping the scales too. in my house it's tipping the scales in favor of gender (considering i'm the lone female in the group) rather than nationality, but it's the same general idea.
